A Stamford Moving Company That Writes Everything Down

Stamford Prestige Movers are full service movers, which in plain words means we do the whole job: pack the boxes, pad and stretch-wrap the furniture, take the beds apart, drive the truck and put it all back together at the other end. Last year that was about 900 moves. Some were a studio apartment and two hours of work. Others were a four-bedroom house going to Boston, or a 40-desk office that had to be running again by Monday. Floors get runners before the first box moves. Always.

Gina Russo runs the place. She spent fifteen years on the dispatch desk of a Westchester van line, and honestly, it shows: she plans a move the way the 7:42 express to Grand Central runs. Truck at the dock by 7:40. Keys handed over by mid-afternoon. We look at every house before we quote it, in person or on video, and the estimate lands in your inbox in writing within one business day. *“If it isn't written down, it didn't happen. That goes for your estimate and your dresser.”* Request a free quote and we'll start the list.

Our Moving Services in Stamford

Local movers in Stamford, CT carrying a blanket-wrapped sofa down brick steps toward a Stamford Prestige Movers truck

Local Moving

From a Harbor Point one-bedroom to a North Stamford colonial, our local crews finish most homes in one day. Every piece gets padded, beds and tables come apart and go back together, and the hourly rate, the crew size and the expected hours are written down before the truck pulls up.

Long Distance Moving

The same crew packs, loads, drives and unloads, so the people who wrapped your dining table are the ones who unwrap it in Charlotte or Naples. We price every long distance move after a walk-through, as a binding not-to-exceed estimate. The scale can lower the bill. It can't raise it.

NYC to Connecticut Moving

About one in five of our moves starts in New York City. Your building gets its certificate of insurance, the day gets planned around the service elevator window, and we load at the curb, then run I-95 so the truck is unloading in Stamford, Darien or Westport that same afternoon.

Packing & Unpacking

Our packing crews arrive the day before your move with every box, the paper and the dish packs. Each carton gets a room label and an inventory number, the kitchen gets packed by people who pack kitchens every week, and at the new house we'll unpack the rooms you choose and take the cardboard with us.

Office Moving

Most of our office moves kick off at 5 pm on a Friday. Every desk, chair and crate gets a number from the new floor plan, IT travels in padded crates, furniture comes apart and goes back together, and a crew lead stays Monday morning to sort out anything that landed on the wrong floor.

Moving & Storage

When the closing dates don't line up, your furniture goes from the old home straight into wooden vaults, about one room each, sealed and logged in our climate-controlled warehouse. It comes back out on the day you pick, and the first month is free when we handle the move in and the move out.

Residential Moving Services in Stamford

Our board fills up with the same dozen kinds of home moves, week in, week out. Each one gets the same 80 pads on the truck, the same written estimate and a crew lead who has done it a few hundred times.

  • Local Moving

Moving inside Stamford or across lower Fairfield County is billed by the hour, starting when the crew rings your bell. A two-bedroom usually takes three movers five to seven hours. In our experience the hours run long only when the boxes aren't taped yet. You see the hourly rate and the likely range before you book. More on local moving in Stamford.

  • Long Distance Moving

Out of state moves are priced on weight and miles, never hours. We put them in writing as a binding not-to-exceed estimate: a lighter load on the scale means a smaller bill, and the number can't go up. Our own crews drive every East Coast run, so whoever wrapped your table is the one who unwraps it. See long distance moving.

  • Apartment Movers

An elevator building asks for three things before moving day: a dock time, a certificate of insurance and padding in the hallway. We sort out the first two with your building manager and bring the third on the truck. Walk-ups need something else entirely. More hands, lighter loads per trip, and nobody rushing a dresser around a stair turn.

  • House Movers

Houses come with basements, attics, garages and a shed nobody has opened since 2019. We walk all of it before quoting. Why bother? We've seen phone guesses on houses run about 20% light, and that gap always shows up on moving day. Most three-bedroom homes load in one day with four movers and a 26-foot truck.

  • Condo Moves

Condo associations have rules about move hours, deposits and which elevator gets the pads. We read the move-in packet with you, send the paperwork ahead and finish inside the window. A late finish can cost you the deposit, and we'd rather not explain that to anyone.

  • Moving From NYC to Connecticut

About one in five of our moves starts in Manhattan or Brooklyn and ends somewhere between Greenwich and Westport. We deal with the New York loading rules and the building forms, then run I-95 the same day. Plenty of our customers keep their Metro-North commute and just swap stations. Read about moving from NYC to Connecticut.

  • Packing and Unpacking Services

Our packers can do the whole house the day before, or only the hard rooms: kitchen, art, lamps. A dish pack, a wardrobe box and a mattress bag for every bed ride on every truck. Unpacking means the boxes get emptied, the paper leaves with us and the plates end up in cabinets. See packing services.

  • Moving and Storage

Closing dates rarely line up. When yours don't, everything goes into sealed wooden vaults in our climate-controlled warehouse, about one room per vault, and comes back out on the day you choose. Think of it as a dry-cleaning ticket for a house. See moving and storage in Stamford.

  • Furniture Movers

One sofa, a sideboard, a bedroom set from an estate sale. Not a whole house? That's fine. Single items and small moves go on our 16-foot truck with the same padding, and the three-hour minimum usually covers two stops.

  • Senior Movers

Downsizing from the family house to a condo or a care community needs a slower pace and a floor plan. We measure the new rooms first so only what fits gets loaded. Then we build the bed and hang the pictures before we leave. It matters more than people expect.

  • Piano and Heavy Item Moving

Uprights, gun safes, treadmills and marble tops each get the right dolly, from a four-wheel dolly to an appliance dolly, and enough people. A piano is strapped on its side to a padded piano board. Tell us the weight and the stairs when you call. We'd rather send one extra mover than make a second trip.

  • Fine Art and Antique Moving

Paintings get glassine against the surface and a custom crate when the frame or canvas needs one. Antiques get extra pads and their own spot on the truck, away from anything heavy. Our fine art movers work with collectors and small galleries all over the county.

Commercial Moving Services in Stamford

Offices here move after hours and on weekends, so Monday starts on time. We've run office moves from a three-desk practice to two full floors. More on our office movers.

Office Movers for Downtown Towers

Desks, files, chairs and monitors leave on Friday evening and are set up, labelled to the floor plan, by Sunday afternoon. We book the freight elevator and the loading dock with property management and send their certificate of insurance within one business day.

Corporate Relocation Services

When a company brings a new hire to Stamford, we move the household on the company's account and send one invoice to the relocation manager. The employee gets a single contact and a dated plan, which honestly is most of what they want.

Medical and Professional Suites

Law firms, accountants and small clinics move room by room with numbered labels, so every file lands in the right cabinet. Sealed boxes of records are logged on the inventory sheet and stay sealed.

Retail and Showroom Moves

Fixtures, display cases and stock move overnight or before opening, and the new space is laid out to your drawing before the doors open.

Office Furniture Storage

Extra desks and chairs from a smaller floor can wait in our climate-controlled warehouse until you need them again or decide to sell.

How a Stamford Prestige Move Goes

Book two to three weeks out for most dates. The last Friday of the month and every Saturday in June go first, because that's when every lease in town ends.

  1. Walk-through

Someone from our office sees the rooms, the stairs, the parking and the elevator, in person or on a video call, and lists every big piece.

  2. Written estimate in one business day

An hourly range for local moves and a binding not-to-exceed price for long distance. That's the number you plan your month around.

  3. Building paperwork

Certificates of insurance, dock times and elevator bookings go to both buildings before the day. Nobody gets turned away at the gate.

  4. Moving day

Floor runners and door jamb covers go down first, then pads and stretch wrap on every piece. Boxes are labelled, logged on the inventory list and loaded. The crew lead texts you when the truck pulls out.

  5. Set-up and walk-through

Beds built, furniture where you point, and a last walk-through together before anyone signs the bill of lading.

Specialty Moving Services

Some jobs need a plan of their own. Ask about any of these when you call, and we'll tell you honestly whether it's worth paying for.

  • Climate Controlled Storage

Wood, leather, paper and electronics hate a hot July and a frozen February. Our climate-controlled storage warehouse sits a few miles from Long Island Sound and holds a steady temperature all year, so a dresser doesn't warp or a leather chair crack while you wait on a closing.

  • Wine Storage

A wine cellar moves in sealed cases and can wait in a climate-controlled wine room until the new house is ready. Bottles travel the way you keep them, upright or on their side. We've moved collections from 40 bottles to a few thousand.

  • Custom Crating

A wooden crate is built around one piece: a big painting, a marble tabletop, a glass shelf. Pads protect an item. A crate means nothing can touch it at all.

  • Last Minute Movers

Lease fell through? Closing moved up a week? Call us anyway. Most weeks there's a gap or two on our schedule, and a small apartment can often move within three or four days of the call.

  • Estate Moves and Clean Outs

Emptying a parent's house is a hard week. We split it into lists: family pieces to each home, items for storage, and the rest to donation or junk removal, all on one schedule so nobody has to make ten phone calls.

  • Small Moves

A dorm room, a storage unit, three pieces from an estate sale. Small moves get our 16-foot truck and two movers, and most finish inside the three-hour minimum.

How Much Do Movers Cost in Stamford?

What Our Customers Say After the Truck Leaves

Every review at Stamford Prestige Movers gets read by Gina and by the crew lead on that job. If we moved you, a few honest lines help the next family in Fairfield County pick a mover with real information.

  • Priya S.
Our building at Harbor Point wanted a certificate of insurance and a dock time. Gina’s office sent both before I even asked. The crew had the two-bedroom in the truck by 11 and set up in North Stamford by 3.

Things to Know Before You Hire Movers in Stamford

Six things we explain on almost every walk-through. In our opinion they save more money than any discount.

  • Box Trucks Can't Use the Merritt

Connecticut bans box trucks and other commercial vehicles from the Merritt Parkway, and its old stone bridges are only about 11 feet high at the sides. So every moving truck uses I-95 or Route 1. Plan around turnpike traffic, not the parkway.

  • Moving Insurance: 60 Cents a Pound Is Not Much

Basic released value coverage pays 60 cents per pound per item. That makes a 50-pound dining table worth $30 on paper. Full value protection costs extra and pays to repair or replace it. If you'd replace it, we think it deserves real coverage.

  • Ask Your Building for the Move Packet

Most downtown towers and condo associations want a certificate of insurance, a deposit and a booked elevator time. Ask for the move-in packet the day you sign the lease, then forward it to us. The building manager will thank you, and so will your crew.

  • How Much to Tip Movers

Most people tip $20 to $40 per mover for a half day and $40 to $60 for a full day, or around 15% of the bill on a big move. Nobody on our crews expects it. Cold water in July gets noticed, though.

  • Check the Mover's USDOT Number

A mover that crosses into New York needs a USDOT number you can look up on the FMCSA website, and a Connecticut-only mover needs a state household goods certificate. Checking takes two minutes. A lost deposit takes longer.

  • Your Moving Checklist Starts at Eight Weeks

Eight weeks out, book the movers and ask for the building packet. At four weeks, pack books and off-season clothes. In the last week, confirm the dock time, defrost the freezer and put passports and medicine in a bag that rides with you, not on the truck.

Stamford Movers FAQ: Questions People Ask

What does a full service moving company in Stamford do?

A full service mover handles every step: packing, padding and wrapping furniture, taking beds apart, loading, driving, unloading and setting up again. Stamford Prestige Movers does each step with our own crews, and adds the building paperwork, vault storage and unpacking when you want them. Every moving service has its own page.

How far ahead should I book movers in Stamford?

Two to three weeks ahead works for most dates. For June, late August or any month-end Friday, give us four to six weeks, because leases and closings pile up on those days. We still squeeze last minute moves into gaps most weeks, so call even when your date is close.

Do you give binding estimates?

Yes. Long distance moves get a binding not-to-exceed estimate, which means the price can only drop if the load weighs less than we figured. Local moves are hourly, with a written range based on the walk-through. Either way, the estimate reaches you in writing within one business day.

Can you move us from New York City to Stamford?

Yes, all the time. Roughly one in five of our moves comes up from Manhattan, Brooklyn or Queens. We send the certificate of insurance, book the street loading window and drive I-95, and most two-bedroom apartments are unloaded in Connecticut the same day. Bigger homes take two days with packing.

Are my things covered if something gets damaged?

Every move includes basic released value protection, which pays only 60 cents per pound per item. Full value protection costs extra and repairs, replaces or pays the current value of anything damaged. We spell out both on the estimate, because the free option covers very little when the furniture is good.

Do you store furniture between homes?

Yes. Your things go into a sealed storage vault, about one room each, inside our climate-controlled warehouse, and come back on the day you pick. A vault runs $150 to $195 a month. When we handle both the move into storage and the move out, the first month is on us.

Do you move on weekends?

Yes. Saturday is a normal moving day at our normal hourly rates, and office moves often run through Sunday so staff can work Monday morning. Spring and summer Saturdays go first, so ask early. Sunday house moves can happen by arrangement when both buildings allow it.

What areas do your Stamford movers cover?

Our crews move homes and offices across lower Fairfield County and southern Westchester: Stamford, Greenwich, Darien, Norwalk, New Canaan, Wilton, Westport, Fairfield, Rye, Port Chester and White Plains. Long distance trucks go to New York City, New Jersey, Boston and down the East Coast to Florida.
